Futurity | Sweepstakes
AHANY Open Futurity
The AHANY Open Futurity is a non-profit program for yearling Purebred and Half Arabian horses. The mare is nominated before the foal is born and the resulting foal is re-nominated and shown in a special class at the annual Eastern Classic horse show.
ELIGIBILITY
- Anyone living in New York State may nominate a foal.
- Any member of AHANY regardless of the place of residence may nominate a foal.
NOMINATION
- Please be sure to use the correct nomination form. You must include the mares name, registration number, stallion name, approximate foaling date and the $30.00 nomination fee.
- Make all checks or money orders payable to AHANY Futurity.
NOMINATION DUE DATE
- Mares should be nominated by December 31st prior to the foaling year.
- Mares may be nominated after January 1st of the foaling year, as long as they meet with the following conditions:
- The mare has not yet foaled (prior to nomination)
- The mare owner includes an additional $10 late fee (total nomination fee-$40.)
RE-NOMINATION
- The foal is re-nominated as a weanling and again as a yearling, at a cost of $30.00 each time. These re-nominations are due no later than April 15th of each year. AHANY will match the $30.00 fee paid in the weanling year as an added bonus toward the prize money.
- Absolutely NO re-nomination accepted after the due date!
SHOWING AND JUDGING
- The resulting foals will be shown as yearlings in a special class at the annual Eastern Classic Horse show.
- The Purebred yearlings will be judged at halter and will be judged in two separate divisions, as purebred fillies and purebred colts and geldings. Half Arabians will be shown together in once class unless entries warrant the class being split.
- The is no entry fee for the futurity classes. However, all other horse show fees must be paid, such as grounds, stalls, drugs etc.
PAYBACK
- This is a nonprofit futurity. All the fees paid into the futurity are kept separate according to group (purebred and half Arabian), then split as to placing and paid out to the first 5 places in each group.
- Additional funds may be added by the club as voted by the AHANY Board.
- Payback is by check and sent by mail after the completion of the horse show. Prize money is determined by dividing the jackpot for each class as follows:
First 30% + Ribbon
Second 25% + Ribbon
Third 20% + Ribbon
Fourth 15% + Ribbon
Fifth 10% + Ribbon
- in the event that there are not 5 entries shown, the remainder of the money will be split equally among all the entries.
- The only deductions from fees are for postage, ribbons, etc., to maintain the Futurity
- If you sell a horse that is up to date in the futurity, please inform the new owner as to the horse’s eligibility to continue the futurity. The horse remains eligible as long as the new owner is a resident of the New York State or is an AHANY member. Please forward payment reminder notices to the new owner.

AHANY Breeders Yearling Sweepstakes
The AHANY Breeders Sweepstakes (BYS) was formed to encourage the breeding, improvement and showing of Arabian and Half Arabian horses.
The Breeders Yearling Sweepstakes is a non-progressive annual program for one year old Arabian and Half Arabian get of the nominated stallions. The yearlings are shown by a nonprofessional at the Eastern Classic Horse Show in August.
STALLION REQUIREMENTS
- Any registered purebred Arabian, or any stallion of another breed whose resulting foal is eligible for registration as a Half Arabian, and is owned or leased by members of AHANY.
- The stallion nomination fee is $175.00.
- $50.00 (non refundable) deposit is due by April 1st of the breeding year. Stallion nominations will be accepted after the April 1st deadline with a $10.00 per month premium. For example, After April 1st $60.00, after May 1st, $70.00, and so on.
- Early payment is recommended as it may result in a $25.00 reduction in the total fees, as voted on each year by the AHANY board.
- If a stallion has bred no mares, and you do not wish to continue, no further money is due.
- The $125.00 balance is due prior to any mare nominations being accepted, or no later than December 31st of the breeding year.
MARE REQUIREMENTS
- Any mare bred to a nominated stallion in the AHANY Breeders Yearling sweepstakes is eligible to be nominated, as long as the resulting foal is eligible for registration as a purebred or half Arabian.
- The AHANY BYS Application Form for the stallion must be entirely filled in, signed and must include the nomination fees before the mare will be accepted.
- The mare must be nominated and a $50.00 nomination fee per mare must be paid no later than December 31 of the year the mare is bred.
JUDGING AND SHOWING OF YEARLINGS
- The resulting foals are shown as yearlings at the annual Eastern classic in June. Foals remain eligible regardless of sale or transaction of ownership.
- The resulting foals must be registered as Purebred or Half Arabians
- The yearling MUST BE SHOWN by a person who has an armature card. There will be no professional handlers allowed to show.
- There will be at least a two judge system in accordance with AHA rules of the AHSA handbook
- There will be four (4) classes: 1. Purebred Colts and Geldings 2. Purebred Fillies 3. Half Arabian Colts and Geldings 4. Half Arabian Fillies.
PRIZE MONEY AND RIBBONS
- All moneys from nomination fees for both stallions and mares will be paid back with only expenses taken out, and will be divided proportionately among Purebreds and Half Arabians.
- The nominated sire owners or lessors, will be awarded a payback of 10% of the prize money as follows (divided equally each class)
Champion………………….60%
Reserve Champion………...40%
- The remainder of the prize money will be divided equally between colts and fillies, and will be awarded to each as follows:
Champion………………….30%
Reserve Champion………...20%
Remainder of Top 10………Balance divided equally
- In the event there are less than 10 yearlings in a class, the percentage will stay the same for those place, and the remaining prize money will be divided equally among the class participants.
